This is a blog post based on the Applied Practice unit that I am going to be undertaking as part of an assignment as part of my BA course at Farnborough. This blog page will hold all my research, screen shots of progress of design work and will be a journal documenting the work that I am doing for this unit.
Today I want to talk about my idea for this unit. This is a competition brief for the D&AD awards and the brief that I chose to do is Bacardi. The related disciplines for this range from the following:
Advertising
Social Media
Digital Marketing
Brand Activation
Integrated Campaigns
This sounds easy enough for me to do. I was going to do Nationwide and Shelter in the beginning, but I found this one to be a bit difficult as this was more written based, but as a designer, I focus that to be my main field, so I will stick to this. Nationwide's related disciplines ranged from the following:
Copywriting
Branded Content
Social Media
Integrated Advertising
Copywriting isn't my major field, so as stated above, will stick to the design element for this process.
Firstly, I am going to brake down the brief a bit and I am going to do this in the form of a mindmap, to be designed using Illustrator and this is the mindmap here and completed:
PLEASE STICK IN MINDMAP HERE ONCE COMPLETELY DONE...
Bacardi's related disciplines ranged from the following outcomes:
Advertising
Social Media
Digital Marketing
Brand Activation
Integrated Campaigns
So far I have researched other advertising campaigns that are out there already and I feel inspired by the iPod advertising campaign with the flat colours and silhouette use in them and I designed a moodboard featuring these:

The thing that inspired me about this campaign is mainly the target audience, which is going to be younger people between the ages of 18 to 26 years old. The people in these adverts look as if they're living life to the full and enjoying it and let's face it, people like to have a drink and have a good time. So, this is how I am going to go about my campaign, using flat colours, silhouettes and gradients.
This is the image gallery of the images used for my moodboard of the iPod campaign:

This is another moodboard in which has inspired my idea. It is that of the Pop Art movement and the thing that inspires my designs for this unit here is that of the colours used for the work done:

I am only inspired by colour use here and I think that this works because it looks appealing to a younger audience and I think that this would work out really well for my Advertising Campaign for Bacardi.
In accordance to feedback given to me by people that have witnessed what I have done so far for this project, I've discovered that I have got the wrong end of the stick in this assignment given what I have discussed above. I have time to rectify this and make it right before this has to be submitted to the appropriate authorities. I have to tie this into a music festival both UK and worldwide. So I am going to make the appropriate expectation.
I am going to research into musical festivals now by looking at images of these and tie these into what I have done without having to change everything that I HAVE done so far so that no time wasted here.
Firstly, I am going to focus on the Brazilian carnival as a way to market the Bacardi product. I have done research into this idea and I have come up with this image as a way of proceeding with my idea for this project and have come up with this first piece of inspiration found on Google:

( Fig 14 ) Macrovector. ( 2017 ) 123RF. (url: https://www.123rf.com/photo_49541463_stock-vector-brazil-decorative-icons-set-with-football-carnival-coffee-parrot-isolated-vector-illustration.html)
I might use elements in this poster to add into the Brazilian carnival part of the Bacardi campaign. I will use Illustrator for this in order to put this together.
What I like about this image above is that of the colours and elements in this image that represent Brazil and everything that Brazil stands for, such as the carnival girl. I am going to use the carnival girl as an example for my advertising campaign, but put my own take into it. I am going to make the great expectation here:
Unfortunately I am not good at drawing people at any time, paper or digital, so I am going to take this image onto Illustrator and trace over the girl and make changes to the way she looks and change the colour of her skin, have one that matches the one above and the other one darker, I think that this works out quite nicely.
I cannot record my progress with Screenshots at this case as I am using a PC that is not allowing me to create screenshots for some strange reason or other, so I will show what I have come up with once I have created it.
And here it is: the Brazil part of my Bacardi campaign.

I like the way that this looks, just the two Brazilian carnival girls and the Bacardi logo to show that this product is represented as part of a worldwide music campaign. The gradient background colours work out really well too as these could represent spotlights. This gradient was represented using the colours of the Brazil flag as shown below here:
